In collaboration with the Deaf and Mute Charity Association, An-Najah National University’s Language Resource Center organized a Sign Language Awareness event on March 3rd and 4th, 2025, in Nablus.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the rights of the deaf and mute and highlight the challenges they face, especially the lack of qualified interpreters in various institutions.

The Center Director, Mrs. Louha Samaneh, emphasized that sign language is not just a means of communication but a vital tool for guaranteeing the rights of deaf and mute individuals in education, healthcare, and employment.

She stressed the importance of having qualified sign language interpreters. Additionally, Mrs. Mona Kalil, the representative of the association, explained that the absence of interpreters creates an isolation for those people. She emphasized that these events help in breaking barriers and fostering social integration.

The event ended with a call to expand similar initiatives across educational institutions and service centers to support the integration of deaf and mute individuals into society.
